PAN AM Weather started out as a division of PAN AM Airlines delivering over telephone lines weather data to airports across America. The costly monthly telephone bill made it prohibitive for most small airports. The team at PAN AM weather broke off from the airline and worked with the TDC team at Modulation Associates to combine satellite data broadcasting, using the DM1000 with on site local  PC hard disk cashing, to hold all the North American weather maps and data. This eliminated the cost of a nation wide deticated telephone network. The pilot review the weather in his area and uploaded his flight plan over dial up modem. This dramaticaly reduced the cost and made the service available at most small airports across the country.
